About the place you will visit
This was one of the villages set between Mount Vesuvius and the coastline and affected by the 79 A.D. eruption. Excavations have brought to light part of a huge villa dating back to the Ist century B.C. It was attributed to Poppea Sabina, second wife of the Emperor Nero, according to some historical evidence. The huge complex can be considered the most completed example of villa d’otium, a residential resort used for resting. It still displays amazing frescoes of the II style of Roman painting, depecting still lives, illusionistic architectures and landscapes of great realistic effect.
